The skills which must be displayed to achieve this level are: |

| Use and understand reverses (or bidding through the 'barrier') |
| Use negative doubles in an auction |
| Respond correctly to takeout doubles |
| Respond correctly to overcalls |
| Cardplay |
| Count winners |
| Take note of the bidding when planning the play |
| Perform basic suit combinations correctly |
| Use count or attitude signals consistently when defending |
| Demonstrate a suit preference signal |
| Understand safe and danger hands |
| Demonstrate an avoidance play |
| Playing |
| Understand the difference between teams (IMPs) and pairs (Matchpoint) scoring |
| Be able to play at eight boards per hour |
| Continue to demonstrate excellent etiquette and behaviour at the table |
