EBTA Three Counties Teachers’ Gathering

In the past, EBED has hosted the EBTA conference on a biennial basis. However, attendance typically comprised of fewer than ten percent of its members, with many discouraged from participating due to the distance from their location to the event venues.

As an alternative, EBED now plans to organise smaller, more localised gatherings for EBTA teachers from neighbouring counties. The first of these events brought together teachers from Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, and Worcestershire. Chaired by Ian Sidgwick, Chair of the Trustees of EBED, the event featured productive discussions and valuable learning opportunities for all participants, including EBED itself.
The gathering provided an excellent opportunity for attendees to gain a deeper understanding of the resources available through EBTA. While some participants mentioned being hindered by a lack of technical skill, EBED’s regular online seminars—held approximately every six weeks—are designed to address this.
All attendees left with greater knowledge than when they arrived, having shared experiences, discovered new ideas, and forged meaningful connections. One participant volunteered to assist others in using RealBridge, potentially leading to joint sessions of assisted play—an encouraging example of community building.
Clive Turner, from EBED, delivered an insightful presentation, structured around the ten key points raised by attendees prior to the event. Overall, it was a highly successful and constructive day. More of these are planned to cover other areas of the country.
