On completion of the module, participants will:
- Have a clear understanding of the role and responsibilities of a club tournament director
- Be able to find their way around the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge in order to be able to give proper "book" rulings for the commonest problems, ie for revokes, penalty cards, leads out of turn and playing a wrong board. Other subjects include the role of Dummy, disputed claims, when is a card "played" and asking questions/correcting mis-explanations
- Understand the function of the Handbook of EBU Permitted Understandings 2017 (the 'Blue Book') and its application to their clubs.
Participants should have played duplicate bridge at club level but no previous experience of directing is required. Those attending should bring with them a copy of the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge 2017 and a copy of the most recent edition of the Handbook of EBU Permitted Understandings - available to download here (the 'Blue Book').
The course includes talks, discussions, group problem solving exercises and role-play to simulate problem situations. It will be led by tutors with experience both in teaching and tournament directing.
An 'EBU Club Directors Certificate of Attendance' will be issued to all who attend this course.
One day. The course will usually start at 10.30am and finish at approximately 4.30pm, but timings may vary from venue to venue.
